Public Inquiry
The Public Inquiry started at City Hall on 21st February 2012 and will end on Tuesday 6th March. The Inquiry has heard that it will take over an hour for British Waterways to respond to a fault then it will take the Council over an hour to erect traffic lights at the end of Oakwood Drive to enable them to open the emergency barriers at the proposed emergency link. So in the event of a bridge fault it will take 2½ hours during which time the only means of access/exit for everyone from Micklethwaite and the new development will be via Micklethwaite Village and the Carr Lane exit.

From the developers own traffic survey at the quieter time of January, 363 vehicles arrives at Micklethwaite Bridge during the morning peak hour and these will need to turn and exit via Carr Lane. This is one vehicle every 10 seconds!! At the same time vehicles will still be driving towards the bridge as no one will know it is closed which will add to the congestion and will add to the potential for accidents in the narrow lanes of Micklethwaite Village.

Friday 2nd March was the day set aside for the Inquiry to visit the site. During this the bridge broke down causing chaos to the traffic and this confirmed how long it would take for BritishWaterways to respond. Their engineer arrived after 1 hour 5 minutes and took another 20 minutes to investigate and decide that electrical contractors would need to be called.

RUDP Update
You may have read the Telegraph and Argus on 14th November (see "In the Press"- below) of the Council's blunder that has effectively removed "Greenhill" from the RUDP. However, do not jump for joy too quickly. Whilst they have not followed the set down procedures the Council are trying to recover their position by backtracking to say that they really meant to do so but somehow "forgot"!! They cannot legally add the land at Sty Lane back into the RUDP but are issuing a statement asking Planning Panels to consider that they did not intend to remove the sites.
